The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Would have to be Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon surely?

Others i think are worthy contenders, although a long way off in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th.

Sgt Peppers, The Beatles
London Calling, The Clash
Aladdin Sane, Bowie
Nevermind, Nirvana

Never Mind The Bollocks This Is The Sex Pistols. Can't think of an album cover that caused so much outrage and a trip to the high court.

Roxy Music's Country Life is the album cover that I looked and looked and looked at on a stall in Chatsworth Rd market wondering why it made me feel 'funny' as a kid.

The bumming of Gary

Can't argue with that.

Best promo pic was Elvis holding a picture of London Calling.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Is this going to be what is thought to be the most iconic or what are our personal faves?.

Ziggy stardust or Sgt peppers.

My own personal favourite is Born to run.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
London Calling??

It's a pastiche/ homage. So good luck with the argument that it's actually more iconic than...

https://store.graceland.com/products/elvis-presley-vinyl-lp

Yes, LC has power in signifying a "changing of the guard" but... It would be like saying Andy Warhol's Marilyn prints are more iconic than Marilyn Monroe herself.

London Calling is a COMMENT on existing iconography, if anything. That doesn't mean it's not famous, but MOST iconic?

So, no, not the end of the thread...

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Yeah but the fact is forget the cover...

London Calling is the ONE album I'd like in my coffin.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Elvis Presley the Album is maybe one of the most famous but not sure its iconic in the same way Dark side of the Moon is, its got his name blazed across as well.

Dark side of the Moon however is instantly recognisable by just about anyone who likes there music, even if they dont like Pink Floyd.

No words, just white light passing through a prism to form the bright colors of the spectrum against a stunning black field.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Fair enough. Not the question though, is it?

I don't particularly go all this "most" levels of rating when comparing apples and oranges. That said, you'll be hard pushed to find an LP cover that's spawned more time-wasting discussion than Abbey Road. It all got very silly.

The rest are just pictures, innit.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
If we were talking music content, then hands down London Calling, but not sure the cover is anywere near Dark Side of the Moon.

Abbey Road is also a good shout TBH, maybe a better number 2 than Sgt Peppers when it comes to iconic covers, Sgt Peppers would be the better album though.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Abbey Rd might be a better album (or not) but Sergeant Peppers is a better known album cover.

Capitol Man 5:10 Fri Apr 3
Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
Nirvana Nevermind has to be up there.

Re: The Most Iconic Album Cover.
As someone who often travels back from the West End to West Hampstead on the 139 up Abbey Road can I please ask the tiresome cunts to get off the crossing.

It’s one of the disappointments of current music going back to the days of cds coming in that album covers have declined as an art form.
